Research After the Second World War, the Danube Swabians were considered complicit in the crimes of the Third Reich, even though only a few of them belonged to this ideology. They were avenged through expulsion, expropriation and forced labour.
Anna Bernauer The story of Anna Bernauer exemplifies the fate of so many Danube Swabian women. In a short space of time, she experiences a great change. After the end of the Second World War, she was deported to several labour camps. She narrowly escaped death due to the terrible living conditions.
Exhibit The exhibit is divided into two screens that are connected by a cove. The lower screen can be interacted with, while the upper screen provides information.
Interaction Our exhibit is divided into three phases: tradition, loss and freedom. These can be navigated through using the appropriate item of clothing. For tradition - traditional costume, for loss - forced labour clothing and freedom - new-fashioned clothing. Points appear on the map for each phase, which can be interacted with. When activated, an animation appears that tells Anna's story at this location.
My role My main task was to illustrate and animate the moving images that ultimately conveyed the information on our topic. Although the work was time-consuming and tedious, I enjoyed trying my hand at drawing again and it was nice to see how emotions and information slowly came together.
